Cargo, print shirts and wool coats since 2012

Clothes you do not have to baby cut for work, water and weekends

BOJIN makes eight-pocket cargo pants, print shirts that come out of a suitcase looking pressed, swim trunks and wool blend coats. This is our own catalogue: 230 pieces in 125 styles, every one sold by size, with the cloth and the pockets written down on its page.

The workshop

How BOJIN started

BOJIN started in 2012 with one pair of pants. Eight pockets, cotton, a relaxed leg, cut for a few friends who worked construction and warehouse shifts and were tired of trousers that gave out at the knee in a season. The first changes to that pattern came from them: a deeper thigh pocket that would take a phone lying flat, a bar tack at the corner that kept tearing, a seam moved off the inside of the knee.

That pair is still in the catalogue, and the BOJIN way has not changed much. A new cut gets worn around the workshop for a month, on a motorcycle, on a site, in the rain, before it is allowed anywhere near a product page.

Print shirts

BOJIN shirts that sell out in June

Short sleeve print shirts for hot days: florals, palms, sharks and stripes on a light stretch cloth.

The cloth

Cotton where it matters, polyester where it helps

The cargo bench is cotton, and we keep it cotton on purpose. It softens with washing, it takes dye deep enough to fade honestly rather than go shiny, and it does not hold smell the way a synthetic does after a hot day. The trade is weight: a cotton cargo is heavier than a nylon hiking pant, and it dries slower.

The print shirts and swim trunks in the BOJIN lineup go the other way. There the maker uses a polyester and spandex cloth that shrugs off creases and dries fast, which is exactly what you want from a shirt that lives in a bag for two weeks. It will never breathe like linen, and the BOJIN pages say so on every product page rather than hiding it in a footnote.

The coats sit in between: a wool blend for warmth and shape, a quilted lining the maker describes as silk cotton, and a cut with room for a sweater underneath.

Coats

BOJIN coats for the cold half

Wool blend trench coats, pea coats and overcoats with a quilted lining.

Sizing

One size per page

We sell every piece one size at a time, which looks odd on a catalogue page and turns out to be useful. It means the price you see is the price for your size, the rating belongs to the cut you are buying, and the size ladder on each product page shows which sizes of that exact colourway are in stock right now.

The ladder is also where honesty about the BOJIN cut lives. Cargo pants run on waist inches and the relaxed cut is true to size. Print shirts run on chest measurement and the stretch cloth forgives an inch. Rash guards are cut close and run a size small on purpose. Coats are cut for a sweater, not a jacket, so over tailoring you size up.
